Last week, the representatives of IBPRS – Joanna Bucka-Kolendo, Ph.D. (Department of Microbiology) and Agata Wierzbińska, M.A. (Department of Research Coordination, Scientific Information and Marketing) held meetings at the Istanbul University which were organized as part of the IS_MIRRI21 project implementation as well as to establish bilateral cooperation between Istanbul University and IBPRS.

The meetings took place in the main rectorate of the Istanbul University and were attended by the Vice-Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Mustafa Oral Oncul and Professor Zerrin Aktas and the research staff of the Department of Clinical Microbiology. During the meetings, the activities of the KÜKENS Collection, which is part of the Istanbul University were presented, preliminary talks on Turkey’s membership in the MIRRI ERIC were held and the possibilities of bilateral cooperation between the university and the institute were explored. The next step will be a return visit of the delegation from the Istanbul University to Poland with the participation of the MIRRI ERIC Board in order to take further steps with regard to Turkey’s accession to the MIRRI Consortium.

KÜKENS Collection was founded in 1979 and owns the bacteria isolated from Turkey and the various microorganisms brought from different culture centres around the World. There are about 906 bacteria and 140 yeast organisms.
