In January this year in Rome, the European Food Safety Agency organized a training course entitled ‘Risk assessment in the food chain’. Mr. Grzegorz Guzik, PhD, Eng., the Head of the IBPRS-PIB Department of Sugar participated in this event. The training focused on the determination of the risk in food production, especially genetically modified food.

 The scope of the training included, intern alia: an overview of genetic modification techniques of organisms, issues and basic stages of risk assessment, as well as molecular characterization and a comparative approach in the study of genetic resources of microorganisms with particular emphasis on molecular characteristics, genetic elements and their biological functions. The training also covered the criteria that should be set during research when introducing a new gene into a plant cell.
